Metabolism and mitochondrial function

The focus of my lab is to investigate molecular mechanisms behind diseases characterized with genetic or acquired mitochondria dysfunction such as inherited mitochondrial disorders, obesity and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. The research aims at understanding the role of polyamine metabolism and NAD+-dependent enzymes, sirtuins and poly(ADP-ribose) polymerases in the regulation of mitochondrial function in normal and diseased states. The overall goal is to develop novel treatments for both inherited mitochondrial disorders and aging related metabolic diseases.
