The process of ageing and stress response

We are investigating the impact on lifespan and stress resistance of factors involved in translation using C. elegans as a model system. We are focused on factors that regulate the protein synthesis rate under nutrient or environmental stress such as the eIF2-alpha kinase, GCN-2, and factors that are important for the translation repression and storage of cytoplasmic mRNAs under normal and stress conditons, such as P bodies and stress granules. We explore the role of them on ageing and stress response and their link to known longevity pathways.
